Target aims to offer next-day delivery to customers who live outside of urban areas.

The large-format retailer revealed on Wednesday that it is trialing a facility that enables it to deliver more online items to customers the day after they click “buy.”
The discounter may open comparable hubs in other significant American cities.
The company’s online sales have decreased, particularly as customers purchase less luxuries goods.

As it strives to boost its e-commerce business, Target has developed a new method to expedite goods to customers who reside in the farther-flung suburbs and neighborhoods of large cities.

The large-format retailer revealed on Wednesday that it is trialing a facility that enables it to deliver more online items to customers the day after they click “buy.” The first one was launched last month in Smyrna, Georgia, 16 miles northwest of Atlanta, and further locations may follow.

Packages are picked up at the extension facility by delivery personnel from Target-owned Shipt, who then hand them off to clients. The drivers, like the delivery people who work with Uber, are independent contractors.
