Herbert Krapa, the Deputy Minister for Energy, has been named by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
This occurs after ECG chair Keli Gadzekpo, who has served in that capacity since 2017, filed his letter of resignation, which became effective on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.
The President of Ghana is determined to address the present issues with electricity supply as soon as possible, which is why Mr. Krapa’s nomination as the new Chairman of ECG comes at a crucial moment.
Mr. Krapa will still hold the position of Deputy Minister for Energy, notwithstanding his assignment.
In his new role, Mr. Krapa is supposed to lead the ECG board and make sure that the power industry is coordinated so that Ghanaian consumers can consistently receive their electricity. The recent power outage and the conflicts between ECG, the Ministry of Energy, and other important organizations, including GRIDCo, VRA, and Ghana Gas, have been criticized by the President.
